About NatureUganda

NatureUganda (NU) is the operational name of the East Africa Natural History Society (EANHS) in Uganda. EANHS is the oldest conservation NGO in East Africa, which was set up in 1909 as a scientific Organization with the aim of documenting the diversity of wildlife in East Africa. Lots of events (see NU history )

led to the formation of sister organisations; NatureUganda in Uganda and NatureKenya in Kenya under the umbrella of EANHS. 

Over the past years, the activities of NU have diversified. Today the main activities include identification of areas important for conservation, biodiversity research, monitoring, and development of appropriate action plans, management of species, sites and habitats. NU works with all stakeholders including local communities in the implementation of these plans.

The overall goal of NU is to contribute to biodiversity conservation and sustainable natural resource management in East Africa.

Our Mission

NU's mission is "Promoting the understanding, appreciation and conservation of nature". In pursuit of this mission, NU strives to create a nature friendly public; enhance  knowledge of Uganda's natural history; advocate for policies favourable to the environment; and take action to conserve priority species, sites and habitats for the benefit of people.
