SUMMARY:First Nature Walk of 2026 – Mabamba Bay Wetland!
DESCRIPTION:NatureUganda invites you to an exciting Nature Walk on Saturday\, 14th March\, 2026 at Mabamba Bay Wetland – one of Uganda’s most iconic birding destinations! \nAbout Mabamba bay \nLocated on the northern shores of Lake Victoria\, Mabamba Bay Wetland spans approximately 17\,000 hectares of open water and extensive marshlands dominated by papyrus and Miscanthus. This rich habitat supports an incredible diversity of wildlife. \nMabamba is internationally recognized both as a Ramsar Site (Wetland of International Importance) and an Important Bird Area (IBA). It is home to over 300 bird species\, including; the globally threatened Shoebill\, one of Africa’s most sought-after birds\, Large congregations of migratory birds such as the White-winged Tern\, Papyrus endemics like the Papyrus Gonolek and Greater Swamp Warbler. \nThe wetland also harbours lungfish\, the primary prey of the Shoebill\, making it one of the best places in Uganda to observe this iconic species in its natural habitat. \nConveniently located near Kampala’s district\, Mabamba bay presents tremendous potential for eco-tourism while showcasing the importance of wetland conservation. \n📅Nature walk Details\nDate: Saturday\, 14th March 2026Departure Time: 7:00 AM (Please arrive before 7:00 AM)Meeting Point: NatureUganda Offices\, Plot 1\, Katalima Crescent\, Naguru \n\n💰 Contribution\nEach participant will contribute UGX 30\,000 to cover transport and boat hire costs. \n\n🚗 How to Get There\nWe shall travel from Kampala via Masaka Road (approximately 30km). Immediately after the turn-off to Mpigi Town\, take a left at the signpost to Buyege. After about 12 km\, the road reaches Kasanje. Proceed through the roundabout and follow the road to Mabamba Bay\, turning right at the first obvious turn-off. \n\n✅ Confirmation\nPlease confirm your participation by 10th March 2026 to enable us to make the necessary arrangements. \n\nCome and experience Uganda’s rich wetland biodiversity\, connect with fellow nature enthusiasts\, and enjoy a memorable day outdoors.
