SUMMARY:Excursion to Kalangala Island
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you to an exciting excursion to Kalangala Island\, taking place from Friday\, April 24th to Sunday\, April 26th\, 2026. \nOften associated with the legendary “Islands of the Gods\,” the surrounding islands hold deep cultural significance. Nearby\, Bubembe Island is believed to be the home of Mukasa\, the spiritual guardian of Lake Victoria. Kalangala Island is accessible via ferry from Bukakata or from Entebbe/Kampala\, offering visitors a scenic and memorable journey across the lake. \nLocated in Lake Victoria\, Kalangala Island (on Buggala Island) is the largest and most developed island in Kalangala District. It serves as the administrative and commercial hub of the island district\, offering a unique blend of natural beauty\, cultural heritage\, and relaxing coastal charm. \nThe island’s economy is largely driven by fishing—particularly Nile Perch—alongside agriculture\, forestry\, and a steadily growing tourism industry. Kalangala Island is rich in biodiversity\, with lush vegetation and wildlife\, including several primate species\, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts. \nThis excursion provides the perfect getaway for relaxation\, birdwatching\, and lakeside experiences\, whether as a stand-alone trip or following a longer safari. \nParticipants will be accommodated at Philo Leisure Gardens\, a tranquil natural garden resort located approximately 1 km from Lutoboka Landing Site and 500 meters from Kalangala Town. The resort’s serene setting offers an ideal environment for rest and rejuvenation. \nAdjacent to the resort is the Lutoboka Central Forest Reserve\, a medium-altitude moist evergreen forest recognized internationally for Lutoboka Point—one of Uganda’s Important Bird Areas (IBAs).
