The Entebbe Botanic Gardens, the oldest National Botanical Garden in Uganda is situated on the Northern shores of Lake Victoria virtually on the equator. The gardens are the centre for plant genetic resources with a collection of plants species from the tropical, sub-tropical and temperate zones, besides several shrubs and other plants regenerated naturally over the years. The Botanical Garden is over 100 years old but has become more beautiful with age. The Garden is certainly a place of beauty and discovery for flowers, plants, shrubs, trees, monkeys, insects and magnificent birds. For the birders, it is best to have an East African Orthinology Book on hand and a good pair of binoculars to make your time here better. Variable Sunbird, Orange Weaver and Vieillot’s Black Weavers are some of the species that may be spotted. Entebbe Botanic Gardens is pleasantly special as it has a total land area of 40 hectares with a 1.5 km walk along the Lake Victoria shoreline presenting breath-taking scenery. In addition, the garden also offers opportunities for learning about how to care and conserve our environment through real life experiences.
