The Big Birding Day (BBD) is an annual event organized by NatureUganda in collaboration with various partners to promote bird conservation, raise public awareness, and support tourism development. The initiative seeks to position birding as a driver of domestic tourism while strengthening Uganda’s profile as a leading global birding destination. It also aims to bridge information gaps by connecting bird watchers, tourism promoters, and conservationists in Uganda with their counterparts around the world.
This year’s BBD will feature two key activities: the Big Birding Launch and the Birding Exercise. The Launch will take the form of a public talk on Thursday, November 26, featuring a keynote address on birding and tourism. The Birding Exercise will take place at selected natural sites, including wetlands, forests, and national parks.
During the Birding Exercise, participants will work in teams at designated locations, each guided by at least two experienced bird watchers or guides to support species identification and verification. Teams will record all bird species observed or heard during the exercise.
