Annual Planning Meeting Sets the Course for Conservation Action in 2026

Annual planning meeting

NatureUganda held its Annual Planning Meeting (APM) from 8–10 January 2026 at Forest Cottages, Bukoto, bringing together staff and branch representatives from Gulu, Kabale, Busitema, Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), and Muni University.

The three-day meeting aimed at developing a robust and inclusive Annual Operations Plan (AOP) 2026, which will guide NatureUganda’s conservation priorities, partnerships, and activities across the country. By engaging branch representatives, the organisation is strengthening collaboration and ensuring that planning reflects on-the-ground realities and diverse expertise.

Beyond strategic planning, the APM also placed emphasis on communication and visibility, recognising their critical role in conservation impact. As part of a communication skilling session, NatureUganda staff were taken through a training on how to communicate science effectively to the public. The session was facilitated by Mr. Charles Odoobo Bichachi, a journalist, and also a member of NatureUganda’s Executive Committee, who shared insights on translating scientific research and conservation work into clear, engaging stories that resonate with wider audiences.

In addition, staff also had a session on visual communication, focusing on the power of photography in conservation storytelling. Guided by Mr. Mathias Mugisha, a photojournalist, the session equipped participants with skills on how to take compelling photos that capture conservation action, people, and nature, and how strong visuals can enhance public engagement and advocacy.

By combining planning, skills development, and collaboration, the organisation is laying a strong foundation for impactful biodiversity conservation in 2026 and beyond.
