NatureUganda holds the 31st Annual General Meeting

The 31st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of NatureUganda took place on May 29, 2025, at Hotel Africana, commencing at 4:00 PM. The event was well-attended, with representatives from corporate and institutional members joining the session.

Dr. Robert Kityo, the Chairman of NatureUganda, provided a comprehensive report on the organization’s achievements and status for the year 2024. Additionally, the Director of Conservation and Partnerships delivered an insightful presentation detailing the projects undertaken by NatureUganda during 2024. These initiatives encompassed research, conservation efforts, education and outreach, as well as community livelihood support.

The Honorable Treasurer presented the financial report for 2024, which was followed by a summary of the audit findings from the organization’s auditors.

In line with the organization’s constitution, leadership transitions were also addressed. The term of the outgoing Vice Chairperson, Ms. Lilly Ajarova, had concluded. She was succeeded by Ms. Caroline Aguti Mugisha, a former Membership Officer of NatureUganda and an active member of the Herps Working Group. Following her nomination and election, Ms. Aguti expressed her gratitude and commitment to advancing NatureUganda’s mission of contributing to national and global conservation efforts. Two new members were identified to join the Executive Committee and these are; Mr. Taga Nuwagaba and Ms. Mary Namukose. Special gratitude to our outgoing executive committee members, Ms. Lilly Ajarova, Dr. Roger Akatwijuka, and Mrs. Charlotte Kanabahita, for their invaluable dedication, strategic guidance, and unwavering commitment to advancing NatureUganda’s mission of promoting the understanding, appreciation and conservation of nature.

On a somber note, the AGM paid tribute to Dr. Derek Pomeroy, the founding Chairperson of NatureUganda, who recently passed away. Dr. Pomeroy was a pioneering figure in biodiversity conservation and a mentor to many. Among his notable contributions was the establishment of the Makerere University Institute of Environment and Natural Resources (MUIENR). His remarkable legacy, which inspired generations of bird enthusiasts in Uganda and beyond, will continue to resonate.

NatureUganda remains steadfast in its dedication to conservation and the pursuit of sustainable solutions for humanity and the environment.
