NatureUganda Holds Successful 2026 Annual General Meeting

NatureUganda held its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Hotel Africana, Kampala, bringing together members both physically and virtually to celebrate conservation achievements, strengthen the organisation’s governance, and shape the future of biodiversity conservation in Uganda.

The meeting, chaired by Dr Panta Kasoma on behalf of the Chairperson, Dr Robert Kityo, who participated virtually via Zoom, reaffirmed NatureUganda’s commitment to accountability, strong governance, and member participation after 117 years of conservation.

The Chairman’s Annual Report highlighted NatureUganda’s conservation achievements over the past year, including progress in conserving birds, wetlands, forests, and biodiversity through partnerships with communities, government agencies, development partners, researchers, and donors.

As NatureUganda continues implementing conservation programmes across Uganda, members reaffirmed the importance of strong governance, active membership, and strategic partnerships in addressing biodiversity loss and promoting sustainable natural resource management.

Throughout the meeting, members emphasized that NatureUganda’s greatest strength lies in its people—its members, volunteers, partners, communities, donors, and supporters—whose collective efforts continue to safeguard Uganda’s rich natural heritage.

One of the key decisions made during the AGM was the election of a new member to NatureUganda’s Executive Committee following the completion of one committee member’s term of office. Four members were duly nominated for the vacant position. Following the election process, Mr Johnnie Kamugisha emerged victorious and was elected to serve on the Executive Committee. Mr Kamugisha has nurtured a passion for nature since childhood and brings extensive experience in conservation and sustainable tourism. He previously served as President of the Uganda Bird Guides Club and currently serves as Chairman of the Uganda Safari Guides Association. He is also the founder of Johnnie Uganda Safaris, a Ugandan-owned safari company.

In another key resolution, members reappointed Turveren GMS as the organisation’s external auditors for the next financial year.

A highlight of this year’s AGM was the recognition of NatureUganda’s corporate members in good standing for their continued commitment to biodiversity conservation and support to the organisation’s mission. A token of appreciation was presented to; Jane Goodall Institute Uganda, Conservation Through Public Health, Pride Bank Limited, Woodland Safaris, Green and Lush Adventure Safaris and Mamaland Safaris.

NatureUganda extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who participated in the AGM, both physically and virtually, and to all members who continue to champion conservation across the country.

The meeting concluded with closing remarks and a networking session over refreshments, providing members with an opportunity to reconnect, celebrate shared achievements, and reaffirm their commitment to conserving Uganda’s biodiversity.
